Deira - a special experience

The two districts Dubai (in the west) and Deira (in the east) are separated by the 200 meter wide natural estuary Dubai Creek. There are no bridges but typical small, long wooden boats transport people over to the other side. Together with many mosques and by its diversity of people and nationalities it is an amazing atmosphere. Also you can rent a boat for a creek tour. It´s not expensive and you will have a great view of the old Dhows and buildings of both districts. Normally you can book two kind of tours: A long trip which takes one and a half hour or a smaller tour which is absolutely ok to get an impression which takes more or less forty minutes.
A lot of little Souks offer excellent spices, clothes and souvenirs and the bustling trade is fun for everybody who wants to barging for the best price. Take a stroll through the alleys and see the mosques with its beautiful finished minarets and visit the famous huge gold souk with its impressive bandwidth of jewelries. If you are skillful enough you can make a good bargain. The Dubai museum is another attraction of this district. You can get an idea how Dubai has changed during the last fifty years and how the people used to live before oil was found in this region.
If you are looking for an inviting and well-equipped stay just a quick walk from the Creek you can stay at the Rio Hotel, London Suite Hotel or at the Rose Garden Hotel Apartments just to mention a few. Hotels in Deira and hotels close to this area are much cheaper than in other districts. The Hotel room rates start at around 150 – 250 DHR per night. A hotel price comparison can help you to find the best hotel to the best conditions.
