Nuremberg, the second largest city in Bavaria after Munich, has a rich cultural history going back centuries, waiting for you to explore. The city was the former political center of the Holy Roman Empire in the Middle Ages and later served as a key symbolic center for Nazi propaganda during the Hitler years. Many of the city's buildings and monuments remain as reminders of this turbulent history. The Nuremberg castle, high on a hill not far from the city center, is a popular destination for tourists. Likewise, the 14th-century Frauenkirche on the main market square is an excellent example of late Gothic architecture that you will not want to miss.

But Nuremberg is much more than just history and culture, it is a vibrant, modern city with some fine dining on offer. You will want to try out the typical regional cuisine, perhaps best in one of the many beer gardens within the city walls such as the Kopernikus, the Kulturwirtschaft or the Marientorzwinger. Typical specialties on offer would include Lebkuchen (a kind of gingerbread), the little Nürnberger sausages, a meat salad or Bavarian-style pretzels. Afterwards, you might want to catch a match at the Nürnberger Versicherungen Arena. Everything from boxing to Bundesliga soccer (football) are held here regularly. Nuremberg is also a popular destination for fairs and conventions. So no matter what you are looking for, be it sports, culture, history or just relaxing, you can get it all in Nuremberg.
